Clie
SonyClie(200)02

The Sony Clie series was one of our favorite PDAs until Sony decided to stop making them. If you can find one, however, they are great PDAs. They have a unique clamshell style body where you can access a small keyboard (which isn’t very important for OBD2PDA but very nice for other applications). The top half of the clamshell pivots and folds together so that the PDA looks and acts like a traditional PDA. The screen is great, one of the largest and highest resolution screens on the market. It comes with lots of cool software (primarily designed for consumers, so there is a good MP3 player and a good video viewer). It’s a pity Sony decided not to continue to make them.

Dell Axim X5 Serial Cable02The simplest way to connect to an OBD scan tool is to use a serial cable that connects to the bottom of the PDA. Here is a picture of the serial cable you need. It also has a cigarette adapter that you can use to power the PDA, which saves the batteries. You can get this cable from our favorite cable supply source, The Supply Net. Click here for a link right to the page where you can order this cable. Make sure that you check that your PDA model is listed before you order a cable.
