Palm m130

This was our favorite Palm PDA for our software. Unfortunately it is no longer in production. The Palm m130 fell into the middle of Palm's product line. It was the most basic device available from Palm with a color screen. In fact, the screen is one of the m130's strong points; it's bright and easy to read in all but the brightest outdoor conditions.

The m130 is also equipped with a Secure Digital (SD) card slot for extra memory. Future versions of GPS2PDA will probably use this memory area for backup purposes.

This device has a rechargeable battery and a USB HotSync cradle.

If you have one of these or can find one (eBay is always a good source for these PDAs; you can usually find one for around $100) then you will have a really good tool to collect travel time data.

The m130 uses Palm's Universal Connector, which is common to many of Palm's newer and better devices. In order to use your m130 with GPS2PDA, you need to acquire a short piece of cabling that adapts the Unversal Connector cradle port to a male, 9-pin serial connector that will mate with your GPS receiver. These cables are available from Supply Net (click here) for $29.95. You also can often find equivalent cables at computer stores and office supply stores. Note: this cable is not the same as a Hotysync cable, which has a female serial connector and is wired differently.
