TungT2
Palm TungstenT2(200)

The Tungsten T2 from Palm is a very good choice if you want a Palm PDA for normal PDA functions and want to use it for GPS2PDA as well. This is a member of Palm’s business line of PDA, meaning it comes with software that is designed for business executives (as apposed to the Zire line which is meant more for consumers). It is very rugged and has a great screen. We have one of these models and use it extensively to test the software and so far we haven’t had any problems with it.

Note, there is an older version, called the Tungsten T, which works well with GPS2PDA. There also is a more expensive version called the Tungsten T3 which we are pretty sure will work very well (but we haven’t tested it yet). There is a (cheaper) model Tungsten E that does not work with GPS2PDA because it doesn’t have a serial port so there is no way to connect it to the GPS receiver. Be careful to get a Tungsten T series PDA.

Dell Axim X5 Serial Cable03The T2 uses a version of Palm's Universal Connector, which is common to many of Palm's newer and better devices. In order to use your Tungsten T2 with GPS2PDA, you need to acquire a short piece of cabling that adapts the Universal Connector cradle port to a male, 9 -pin serial connector that will mate with your GPS receiver. These cables are available from The Supply Net (click here). You also can sometimes find equivalent cables at computer stores and office supply stores. Note: this cable is not the same as a Hotysync cable, which has a female serial connector and is wired differently.
